Marseille-Provence 2013 : European Capital of Culture


The city of Marseille has been designated European Capital of Culture for the year 2013. To set up all the cultural projects, committees have organized activities for the whole year.

There are four committees : technical committee, assessment, guiding and evaluation.

- The technical committee is composed of technicians designated by the members of the ”Conseil d'Administration” and by qualified persons. They must follow the work of the associations.
There are territorial working groups. In each main area of Marseille-Provence, working groups were established to discuss and evaluate the projects of the association.

- The “guiding” committee brings together the technical representatives of the administrators to talk about the project of the moment.

- The evaluation committee was set up to improve the different projects and observe the impact they have on the economic development and tourism, the development of arts and cultural activities, public participation.

- The audit committee is composed of nine members: six major communities have a seat and other districts have agreed to be represented by one of them, the 8th seat is held by an independent director who is elected President of the audit committee. The missions of this committee are the development of financial statements and the effectiveness of internal control systems and risk management.
