The students'life in Montgrand school
It is a french school
located in the center of Marseilles not far from the Old Port. We can
notice that the school is a melting pot.
First it was a girls’shool
which had been created in 1891.The school is named Montgrand in
memory of an old mayor, the marquess of Montgrand.
Attending such an open
minded high school is very pleasant. The abundance of optionnal
subjects available here allows the students to develop their
creativity.
When you enter the school,
there is a big hall with quotations written on the walls in several
anguages. They might leave a mark on you.
The atmosphere brings a
mental stability to the students who study here. With the overpresent
cultural blend, there is more incentive to sharing different points
of view.
Every year, for
Valentine’s day a box in which we can write sweet words to the
otrhers is set.
For Carnival, the students
attends the classes in fancy clothes. Four times a year, a concert is
organized at lunch time in order to make the atmosphere friendly.
The teachers who supervise
our studies are quite understanding and ready to listen to the issues
raised by some of us, though they can be strict to maintain
discipline during the lessons.
As for our headmaster, he
is always present for you if you have any problem that needs to be
solved. And if you are a new student, everybody acts so that you feel
at ease in the new environment as well as possible.
To conclude Montgrand
school gives everyone the possibility to succeed in one’s studies
and go to the university.
A presentation of our school
Montgrand high school is located in the 6th district of Marseilles, established in the Roux de Corse mansion « Hôtel Roux de Corse » built in 1745. The mansion was sold in 1805 to the city and it became the « Préfecture » of the Bouches du Rhône.
Since 1891, Montgrand had
been a girls’school until it became coeducationnal. Ils name comes
from one of Marseilles’mayor, the marquess of Montgrand.
Now I study in Montgrand
school.
There two entrances in
Montgrand school, one of them near Felix Baret square for the
students and another one in Montgrand street for the teachers and the
staff. The pupils can study disciplines such as maths, french,
languages, geography, history etc. There are also other possibililies
such as the european classes (german or English) , arabic etc.
The students can chose
several activities as dancing, singing, playing music, theater etc.
There are many rooms in
several buildings called A,B,C,D,E, F) Each building has four floors.
There are also a beautiful dining-room, and a cafeteria where you can
buy sanswiches, and drinks but neither cheeseburgers nor hamburgers.
Montgrand school’s
architecture is « old » and interesting unfortunately,
there
are no racks toput our
books and our bags are very heavy. Nevertheless, I think it is a
delightful high school.

Our school: Montgrand school
I am 15 years old and I go to Montgrand High School. It is neither a big school nor a small one. It is a medium sized school. There are 800 students and 66 teachers.
Our school has two
entrances : one for the students which is situated in Felix
Barret Square, and the other one for the staff which is situated in
Montgrand street. If you enter by the students entrance you will pass
through a hall opening to the yard. On your right handside, there is
a building with a green staircase dedicated to the french classes.
Straight ahead you can see the ping pong classroom. Then, on your
left, you will find two staircases, one leading to the C building and
the second one leading to the school library.
In the main yard there are
trees and benches.
In the yard, there are
five doors. The first one leads to the C building. The other doors
lead to a hall with two staircases, going to the A building and to
the B building.The last door is to enter the cafeteria.
Each buiding is composed
of three floors, except the D buiding which has four floors. On the
other side of the yard, the large door leads to the nicest rooms of
the school one called « Salon bleu », the
music room, the teachers’room and the staff’s offices.
My school is a
« classified » monument. I twas built in 1745 the
marquess Roux de Corse as a family mansion. He was a ship builder and
his richness was due to the trade of the Old Port.The mansion was
sold in 1805 to the city of Marseilles. It was first the residence
of the « Prefet des Bouches du Rhône », then it became a
Girls’ highschool in 1891, the first one of the city,
Today the building is a
high school for girls and boys.
The building is visited
for its façades, stairwell, chimneys inside decoration and its
beautiful atrium.

My opinion about my school!
It is a french high school
of secondary education situated in the 6th district of
Marseilles. This
institution located in the former Roux de Corse mansion (Hôtel Roux
de Corse) is a public establisment which is remarkable for its
mixity. It welcomes pupils of any origin. Its principles are based on
respect and laicity. All the persons working in the school feel at
ease. Freedom of expression is one of its principles as well as
tolerance.
As for the beauty of the
building, let’s say that its architecture dates back to the
eighteenth century, thus the teachers and students benfit from a
pleasant setting to work.

Hi, I am David. I am a student of Montgrand High school and if you come to Marseilles, I will probably be your guide.
In Montgrand High School
we are about 800 students, all of them different the ones from the
others and there are no problems.
You can’t lose your way
in MontgrandHigh school because it is a small school. There are 4
buildings (A ,B,C,D) for the lessons.
In our school you can take
part in lots of activities such as dancing, music playing, body
building, ping-pong, « Pamun club »,. These
activities are proposed by the teachers in order to hepl the students
discover new things and how to share them.
Our school is very well
located in the center of the city.
There are beautiful places
in our school like the « blue room » « salon
bleu », the headmaster’s office, or the basement of the
school which has been transformed into a library. Maybe when you
come, you won’t be disappointed!
